The Unseen Arm (in Japanese 見えざる腕, Miezaru Ude) is the third track on Sound Horizon's fifth story CD Roman.

Lyrics

Romanized transcription pending
In his sleepless nights, he takes out his anger on a dirty female cat[chatte] in the alleyways...

Ah...strangling with that unseen arm...
《Phantom Dream》[fantome de reve] The pain of a crumbling ego...

In a sane state of drunkenness, he thrashes about in his castle[chateau] in the attic...
Ah...the searing pain of that unseen arm...
《Phantom Pain》[fantome douleur] Dousing himself with cheap wine, he sleeps...

“After General Alvarez--------!!”

The aged forest of beasts, stained by sunset...the two men that met on the battlefield...
The blond-haired knight[laurant], the red-haired knight[laurant]...
Conflicts spread...and corpses are piled up...
Who is the assailant...and who is the sufferer?
In the shadow of the setting sun, the blade shines a scarlet black-

His life[sa vie], taken along with his arm
He was jobless, and his lover left...
The worst kind of life[la vie], with everything lost and taken away
Living in fear of sudden bouts of pain...

“Usually[le plus souvent]...you beat me when disturbed by nightmares...
And if this keeps up...I’ll die someday...
Farewell[au revoir]...I love you more than anyone else...
Still...I don’t think you’d make a good father[pere] for this child in my belly...”

Wine[du vin]...champagne[du champagne]...brandy[de l'eau-de-vie]...

Ah...tearing apart the calmness of the slumbering forest...he appears again...

The image of him riding a horse...a nightmare indeed...shaking his hair loose, he swings the reaper’s scythe...
The image of him harvesting heads...a windmill indeed...scarlet flowers blooming vividly, the courageous needle of mentality...
Lightly cloaking himself with darkness-

Is this the reality he wakes up to, or is he still delirious in a dream?
That’s why...his life afterwards is trapped within pain...filled with wine and madness
A cross-shaped scar on his left cheek, brightly burning red hair with brown eyes
Kill him...the arm aches, 『the Unseen Arm』aches...

Who is the assailant...who is the sufferer...search for the reaper and bury him...

“I’ll kill you!”

The knight[chevalier] straddles a horse again...time changes the world in silence-
The two men[laurant] that met again in a foreign bar...

One-eyed and one-armed...dead drunk and intoxicated...
Ah...not a trace remains of his former valor...

The man that sprung out of nowhere holds a black sword[epee noir] in his hands
(“Out of my way.” “Woah!”)
The fluid[sang] splattered around bears a liking to wine[pinot noir]
(“Who the hell...are you...ahhh!”)
The name of the flower offered while stabbing is- “Good evening.”[bon soir]
(“Bon soir.”)
The name of the song brought to life while drawing out is- “Farewell.”[au revoir]
(“Au revoir.”)

The name of the man that fell down is Laurant...the name of the man that ran away is Laurencin...
The other Laurant...merely stood there, struck dumb...

Who is the assailant? Who is sufferer? The victims just keep piling up
Going around...spinning around...the windmill of hatred...dancing...dancing...just like a flame...
Ah...in the shade of the pillar...is the silhouette of a young boy...watching...with brown eyes...

“Nothing ever goes right in life, but this pain is the proof that I lived.”

The curtains draw close on the stage of revenge...and the man starts to think-
About his remaining arm...his remaining life...its unseen meaning-

A glass filled to the brim with wine...its taste lingers in his heart...

“Can roman be found there...?”
